Crossing is a strong back bending yoga posture. It is popular in many forms of yoga and is part of the primary series of Ashtanga yoga. Along with the backward bend, Chakrasana is seen as a heart-opening posture in yoga and is believed to work on the heart chakra. The name comes from the Sanskrit chakra, meaning “wheel,” and asana, meaning “pose” or “posture.” It is called so because in this posture the body forms the shape of a wheel. Chakrasana may also be referred to simply as Wheel Pose. Chakrasana is also sometimes known by the alternative Sanskrit name Urdhva Dhanurasana, meaning upward bending bow pose.
